Procedure for "Tie-in" of New Polyurea Coating to Existing Polyurea Coating
That is Older Than 24-Hours

BACK

1)     All existing polyurea adjacent to cut-out areas should be adhered to concrete surface.

2)     Cut-outs in existing coating shall have no vertical edges.

3)     Cut-outs in existing coating shall have edges beveled to minimum 45°.

4)     Perimeter of existing polyurea coating adjacent to cut-out will have its surface ground with heavy scarification, at least 6 inches from cut, in all directions.

5)     Any loose or particulate material, dust, staining, etc. will be removed from surface using high pressure water blasting.

6)     All areas of polyurea coating adjacent to cut-out shall be allowed to dry, prior to application of new polyurea coating.

7)     Areas of exposed concrete visible within “cut-out” shall be primed.

8)     After primer has achieved a “tack-free” state, new polyurea coating will be applied as follows:

a)     Using light sweeps of the spray gun, a first coating is applied to “cut-out” area, extending up and onto the ground surface.

b)     Allow sufficient time for new coating to dissipate some of the new coatings heat, prior to any further polyurea application. Generally, 10-15 seconds is sufficient.

c)      Continue application in light, multi-axis pattern, allowing sufficient 10-15 second heat dissipation breaks.

d)     Light application passes continue up and onto the ground existing polyurea surface, to achieve specified thicknesses.

e)     Visually inspect newly coated area for air bubbles, pinholes or any voids or breaks.
